ABSTRACT

Maritime assets have notable characteristics similar to other industries with moving assets such as aircraft/aerospace, defense units, and automotive. The aim of this work is to explore the introduction of additive manufacturing in the supply chain of the spare parts of the ships. A literature review of the available technology (methods, materials), and lessons learned from the application in industries with similar to shipping characteristics (industries with moving assets), reveals the potential of applying it in the shipping industry. The existing situation process is modeled including the involved stakeholders (ship, the shore, suppliers, manufacturer etc.) in order to get an understanding of it. An alternative new technology future scenario is proposed for supplying the ships with spare parts.
