Due to minimising the cost of shipping one unit, the ship owners decide to order bigger ships that are economically favorable. The changes in the world fleet of container vessels have an impact on the functioning of container terminals. One of the most crucial aspects is the issue of appropriate use of the length of the berth and optimizing the number of mooring posts. The length of the berth and its proper use determines also the number of technical equipment, especially Ship-to-Shore Cranes used for loading and unloading operations. The article presents the analysis of the influence of crane cycle times effectiveness and estimation of the indicator of quays usage in polish container terminals.
