ABSTRACT

Ships as means of transport are crucial elements which have a large impact on the safety of maritime transport. Therefore, the safety analysis can be found as an important element of process safety management. The paper presents systematic approach to modelling the ship’s safety, in which hazard identification and risk assessment are performed for every subsystem of the ship. In this case, methods considering safety requirements (applying in safety engineering) have been used. They allow engineers to take into account all safety aspects during development, modification and maintenance of technical objects. These methods also include hazard analysis and risk analysis. Hazard analysis identifies hazard and its cause- effect relationship. On the other hand, risk analysis determines frequency and effects of dangerous events. The paper discusses procedures allowing for validation of safety for subsystems ship: Performance Level (PL) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL).
