ABSTRACT

Geogrid is a major type of geosynthetic with an open mesh grid structure. Uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial are three common types of geogrid. This planar product, manufactured from a polymeric material, could be used with soil, rock, or other geotechnical-related material as an integral part of civil engineering projects. Recently, geogrids have been widely used for soil reinforcement of paved and unpaved roads where weak soil condition exists. This paper discusses the geogrid types and definition, production methods and properties, and function of geogrid in flexible pavements systems. Moreover, geogrid reinforced pavement systems modeling and design methods are introduced and explained.
