ABSTRACT

Cold recycling with foamed asphalt stabilization has been increasing and gaining acceptance with the roads industry seeking for pavement rehabilitation solutions that result in efficient and capable structures, that bring economic advantages, and lower impact on the road operation (less interventions). This study has the objective of evaluating the field performance of cold recycled mix stabilized with foamed asphalt, for a better understanding of its behavior with time. An experimental test section incorporating a foamed stabilized base layer was monitored through FWD testing. It was observed that deflections have decreased significantly from the rehabilitation day until the last measurement (almost 3 years later). FWD data indicated the decrease in deflection with time, resulting in an increase of the layers stiffness. Based on the results obtained, it was found that curing is a critical consideration in terms of its influence on pavement performance.
