ABSTRACT

Since 2008, the asphalt producers in the Netherlands should report the specifications of the produced asphalt mixes according to the European standard. For Asphalt Concrete (AC) mixes, this includes reporting material compositions, stiffness, fatigue resistance, water sensitivity and permanent deformation resistance, etc. In this paper, the results of a statistical analysis will be presented over 162 initial type tests to investigate the relationship between the asphalt mixes compositions (bitumen, aggregates, air voids, etc.) and the functional performance parameters. Prediction models was developed to estimate the mixture performance of different types of asphalt mixtures by using the basic volumetric and bitumen rheological input parameters. Furthermore, this model was applied to explain the stiffness data of core specimens obtained from a provincial road in the Netherlands.
