ABSTRACT

From the moment a pavement is delivered to the end user, proper maintenance is essential in order to maintain a satisfactory level of functionality while maximizing its life cycle. Furthermore and most importantly, flight safety is highly depended on the condition of pavements. Maintenance and rehabilitation works must be thoroughly scheduled and discovering the optimum course of action is what an Airport Pavement Management System (APMS) achieves. The Hellenic Air Force is therefore developing an APMS which is consisted of two systems; a system for collecting and storing information (Pavement Inventory) in order to gradually “build” the required background and an information system for the processing of data that involves distress reporting, in real time. The latter serves as an operational Distress Report Center, which not only entries data but also provides recommended actions.
