ABSTRACT

In order to control the uneven settlement of the tram track in soft soil area, an innovative pile-slab track structure is employed in Shanghai Tram Line T1 and T2 construction projects. Because there are still no reasonable design theories for this innovative track configuration, some design parameters that are chosen based on the engineering experience should be optimized by theory analysis. In this paper a stratum-structure model is employed to investigate the internal forces of the pile-slab structure due to the most unfavorable load combination. Based on the internal forces, the crack width of the concrete slab is calculated as the criteria to optimize the span of the pile-slab structure. Results indicate that the maximum temperature stress in the slab is 1.62 MPa and the span of the pile-slab structure should not be larger than 8 m on the condition that the thickness and the reinforcement ratio of the slab are constant.
