ABSTRACT

Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) development in China was summarized in this study. The dynamic responses and deflection of asphalt pavement with a flexible base course were measured based on the Chang’an University HVS (MK VI). Result shows that the wheel speed, axial loading level, and pavement surface temperature affect the dynamic responses. Study indicates that an appropriate vehicle speed and lighter axial loading are preferred in pavement service life. It has to balance the high cracking resistance and self-healing capability at high temperatures. The deflection and deflection basin measurements reveal that there is a fatigue damage point during APT testing. The comparison between calculated deflection and measured deflection shows a great gap between real condition and ideal condition. Thus, a more accurate model should be developed in the future.
