ABSTRACT

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare soft tissue tumor of low-to-intermediate malignancy characterized by locally aggressive biological behavior and a high recurrence rate. Distant metastases, on the other hand, are rare. Clinically, it initially presents as one or multiple firm erythematous nodules or plaques that may suppurate or ulcerate. The primary lesions gradually enlarge and become confluent, forming characteristic bulky, protuberant neoplastic masses. Dermoscopy might facilitate the clinical recognition of early lesions by revealing a reddish background color in conjunction with fine linear vessels. A fine pigment network with structureless light brown areas, white streaks and structureless de- or hypopigmented areas can also be observed.
