ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book proposes and implements the cognitive information-centric sensor network (ICSN) architecture for data delivery in large scale Internet of thing (IoT) applications. It provides the details of the proposed ICSN architecture while discussing a novel grid-based deployment plan for the cognitive nodes. The book investigates the details of the cognitive elements while employed in a generic data delivery ICSN framework. It also provides the details of a cognitive energy-aware data delivery approach in the IoT era, which work with the learning technique to improve the average data delivery rate. The book compares the performance of the cognitive data delivery strategy against other commonly used techniques in the literature. It introduces the cognition in a well-known information-centric network paradigm, namely the wireless sensor networks (WSNs), to be applicable in smart environments in the IoT era.
