Culture is very important, especially when meeting with people from different culture countries. among people from various nations. Culture also implies a national identity that is differentiable between countries. This study aims at identifying a national identity, through a survey of university students who have various backgrounds, including ethnic and regional. A sample of 76 civil engineering students from the University of Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) in Indonesia were obtained. Five instruments of cultural dimension were adopted from Hofstede and Hall. Results of the study identified that the national culture of Indonesia, based on five dimensions from Hofstede and Hall, has the scale of 35, 58, 41, 49, and 67, for power distance, individualism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, and long-term orientation respectively. The study found that there was no significant difference in the five national cultural dimensions between the ethnic groups of Java, China, and other nations. The study also found that there were no significant difference between each cultural dimension against the ethnic groups of Java, China, and other nations. This implies that the national identity has been solid among the ethnic groups. With its ethnic and subcultural diversity in the region, Indonesia is currently considered to have the lowest power distance among the Asian countries.
