ABSTRACT

This article is based on a two-year study entitled “Developing the music thematic teaching model based on teaching implementation in the Netherlands”, in which one of the objectives is to encourage children’s character formation using the elements of music. The research used an experimental design, and the data collection methods were literature review and observation in both the Netherlands and Indonesia. The data was analyzed using a t-test. The findings of the research are: 1) music teaching in both the Netherlands and Indonesia used elements of music to build children’s characters; 2) the rhythmic element can shape self-discipline; 3) changes from major to minor scale elements can develop sensitivity; 4) changes in dynamics and tempo can enhance tolerance; 5) both inward-facing and canon singing can improve students’ ability to focus; 6) a t-test analysis showed that these musical elements are able to influence students’ behavior with a significance level of 0.05%.
