ABSTRACT
The assessment of students’ intelligence is an essential part of conducting effective learning strategies. According to projective theories, children attempt to express their unconscious emotional condition in ways which avoid conflict with their surroundings. One of these ways is projective drawing. Previous research has shown that children’s drawings, especially children’s drawings of the human figure, deliver information about their psychological functions. Nevertheless, there were still questions about the correlation between children’s drawings and children’s intelligence. This study aims to look at the correlation between children’s drawings and intelligence scores from a different point of view. The basic assumption underpinning this study is that there is a correlation between the emotional aspects of children’s drawings and their personality aspects according to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) test. Participants of this study consisted of 71students from elementary schools located in Semarang, Indonesia who had agreed to join this study. All participants completed the WISC test and Koppitz’s Human Figure Drawing test (HFD). The results show that further research is needed to explore this correlation even though there are some aspects of WISC that have significant correlation with HFD scores.
