ABSTRACT

In order to understand the mechanical behaviour of DEM crushable grains under plane strain conditions and to apply the numerical crushable sediments to a geotechnical problem, a series of simulations were conducted. The mechanical behaviour of element tests under plane strain conditions can be normalised by the crushing strength of the sediments. For the loading simulations, the dependency of peak load on crushing strength was recognised. Also, the effect of crushability on local displacement behaviour was reflected by a difference of shear mode. This difference of shear mode was related to the dilatancy behaviour.
