ABSTRACT

We propose a micromechanics-based constitutive model that can covers from elastic response to plastic failure. Through a comparison between the original uniform strain model by Chang & Misra (1990a) and DEM (Discrete Element Method) simulation from a viewpoint of contact force distribution, we propose a new micro-mechanism that describes a buckling of contact force chain formed in granular materials. It was found that a simple implementation of this mechanism improves the response drastically.
