ABSTRACT

In order to develop a numerical analysis method for the bearing capacity of a strip footing placed on sand slope, a series of loading tests on model sand slope were performed. In these loading tests, a precise image analysis method, the Cross-Correlation and Isoparametric (CCIP) method, was used to obtain distribution of displacements and shear strain. Deformation behavior and progressive failures were observed clearly. Test results were simulated by FE-analysis incorporated with an elasto-plastic constitutive model, named the MMX-model. Comparison between results of physical experiments and FE-analysis shows that the MMX-model can be used to simulate load-settlement relationships and deformation behaviors of model tests accurately. Effects of loading position on bearing capacity and deformation behaviors are discussed.
