ABSTRACT

In this study, to examine the effects of the fabric anisotropy, the particle size and shape of soils on the anisotropy of elastic moduli at small strain, the bender element tests were performed on five kinds of sands, one kind of volcanic ash sand and three kinds of clays including undisturbed samples. Some reconstituted specimens with the angle between the axial direction of the triaxial specimen and the bedding direction of 0 and 90 degrees were cut from the frozen sand blocks or the pre-consolidated clay blocks. These specimens were isotropically consolidated under several kinds of confining pressures. The shear wave velocities on three different directions (VH, HH, HV-wave) were measured by the bender element tests.
