ABSTRACT

Blunt force injuries may be produced by a variety of mechanisms. Blunt forces are transmitted by objects with relatively broad or rounded edges. The striking object may be in motion such as in the case of injuries sustained by being struck with a baseball bat. Conversely, the body itself may be in motion, such as deceleration injuries when falling from a height or when involved in a collision. Deaths from blunt force injuries may occur in child abuse, assault, falls, collisions, and accident cases. In falls from a height or rapid deceleration in automobile or other conveyance collisions, deceleration injuries are often noted. Control injuries generally refer to the injuries to the body inflicted through rapid deceleration from the control surfaces of the vehicle. Control injuries allow the reconstructionist to determine the driver/pilot as compared to the passengers in a conveyance.
