ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses noncriminal consensual and solo sexual activities that may result in death. The expertise of a sexual assault response team at the scene of suspicious deaths may be very valuable. If a fragile medical condition exists such as cardiac disease or cerebrovascular disease, to include the increase in plaque in supplying blood vessels, the rigors of sexual activity may be sufficient to cause a cardiac or cerebral incident leading to death. If excessive pressure, duration, or inadequate judgment as to when to relieve pressure is exercised, it may result in the death of the practitioner. During bondage, domination, sadism, masochism sexual encounters with the use of a gag, either commercially procured or expedient, the device may shift position or become saturated with saliva and no longer allow air to pass. The victim should undergo a sexual assault protocol during examination, to include a victim sexual assault evidence recovery kit.
