ABSTRACT

The ancient Olympic games started in Olympia, which is located in the southwest of Greece. Greek and ancient sports started as only one-day games, and later extended to three-day events from around 776 BC. The ancient Greek Olympics actually continued for a long time. It was so enormous and vital that a sacred truce was created during the games for safe passage for all travelers including athletes, coaches and spectators through all different states. The Greek event would start in summer and initially there were no winter events. There were no tracks for running and water sports were non-existent. Wrestling is very similar to the current format in the Olympic games. Wrestling matches consist of three periods and the length of the periods vary as per different age group. Greek wrestling rules were slightly different, and the modern wrestling has evolved from Greek wrestling.
