ABSTRACT

The prepared nanocomposites were tested for mechanical/thermal/electrical properties, and also irradiation properties were determined. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) provides opportunities to the modern industry by its outstanding versatility, by improving the performance of any product from shoe soles to seals, films, conveyor belts, and cables. Polyester TPUs are unaffected by oils and chemicals, provide excellent abrasion resistance, offer a good balance of physical properties, and are perfect for use in polyblends. The mentioned work deals with the preparation of composites based on TPU and nanosilica via the melt-blending process in a laboratory mixer. Polyester TPU nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing techniques on optimized conditions and various concentrations of nanosilica were added out of which 3 phr was the optimum one which gave excellent properties to nanocomposites. Nanosilica-based composites could stand and maintain their properties, at specified dosage and time, but there is a decrease in tensile strength.
