ABSTRACT

There is a lack of consensus on methods of assessment of disease severity in vitiligo. This makes it difficult to carry out a meta-analysis and compare the findings from different studies for the same treatment options. Various scoring systems are available to assess extent, stability, and repigmentation in vitiligo. In routine practice, the common methods used include visual and photographic analysis. However, these methods are subjective and thus cannot be used in clinical studies. The common severity indices used to assess the extent of area of involvement, severity of the disease, repigmentation index, etc. are discussed in the chapter.
