ABSTRACT

Ultraviolet phototherapy has been a useful tool in the treatment of vitiligo for long time. Initially, photochemotherapy (i.e., psoralen and ultraviolet A) was considered as the mainstay of treatment for vitiligo, but currently narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB) phototherapy has proven to be a safer and more efficacious modality with better tolerability and fewer side effects as compared to other UV-based therapies for the management of vitiligo. NB-UVB is found to be effective alone and in combination with other topical and systemic adjuncts with encouraging results. In this chapter, we review the journey of UV-B therapy in vitiligo so far, along with various adjunctive therapies, and we highlight the recommendations based on the current evidence and authors’ experience.
