ABSTRACT

Vitiligo is a depigmentary cutaneous disorder of significant cosmetic disfigurement. Most patients respond to medical treatment, but some require surgical intervention. Surgical interventions are effective therapeutic modalities for replenishing the melanocyte reservoir at the affected site.

Dermabrasion is an extensively used surgical modality in the management of stable vitiligo. It stimulates the hair follicle melanocytes and facilitates their migration into the basal layer of epidermis. It can be used in combination with both topical and systemic therapies for enhancing the repigmentation in localized stable vitiligo.
