ABSTRACT

Vitiligo is an ancient contagion. It has been detected in the various medical literature from around the world. This aesthetically disfiguring ailment is more often than not accompanied by severe psychosocial impairment. People affected with the disease may be very sensitive to the way others perceive them, and upon the thought of being rejected they tend to withdraw. This can make the patient and their family follow many different types of rituals rather than seeking medical help. Many myths and misconceptions exist related to the disease and these vary from one part of the world to another. This chapter deals with some of the most common myths prevalent about vitiligo in society.
