ABSTRACT

Vitiligo is an acquired idiopathic disorder specifically destroying the melanocytes that results in well-defined, depigmented, and cosmetically displeasing patches on the skin or mucous membrane. Vitiligo is classified according to the area of its distribution as localized, generalized, or universal. Localized types of vitiligo include focal, segmental, and mucosal while the generalized form encompasses acrofacial, vitiligo vulgaris, and mixed varieties. Involvement of more than 80% of the body is considered as universal vitiligo. The focus of this chapter is the clinical profile of vitiligo vulgaris, one of the most common varieties of vitiligo.
