ABSTRACT

Segmental vitiligo is a type of vitiligo with certain features which include unilateral lesions with a dermatomal distribution, early onset, rapid progression and then a stable persistence. In rare instances it may progress into a generalized form, and that entity is called mixed vitiligo. Complete repigmentation is almost always difficult to achieve with medical treatment. Patients with segmental vitiligo are considered good candidates for surgical treatment because of the stable and limited nature of the disease, and the modalities include autologous epidermal grafting, transplantation of melanocyte suspensions, and hair follicle transplantation.
