ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate factors influencing cardiotoxicity and the association between risk factors and cardiotoxicity due to trastuzumab. A case–control study was performed by collecting data from the archives containing profiles of 107 patients with breast cancer who received trastuzumab in the Medical Oncology Department, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, between 2005 and 2015. Risk factors for breast cancer such as BMI > 30 kg/m2, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and prior radiotherapy were studied. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the data. The analysis showed the following results: BMI > 30 kg/m2 (OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.060–5.902, p = 0.656), diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.24, 95% CI = 0.515–9.736, p = 0.282), hypertension (OR = 1.41, 95% CI = 0.406–4.865, p = 0.591), and prior radiotherapy (OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.202–1.716, p = 0.332). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that there were no significant relationships between the aforementioned risk factors and cardiotoxicity due to trastuzumab. Nevertheless, a larger sample size is required to confirm the conclusion of this study.
