ABSTRACT

Different in vivo confocal microscopy algorithms have been described to diagnose skin tumors with high sensitivity and specificity for melanoma and for BCC. Algorithms for diagnostic approach of an equivocal lesion are necessary to improve the learning process and can be the clue to avoid misdiagnosing melanoma. It is important to keep in mind that similar to the well-known two-step dermoscopic algorithm, the first step in confocal diagnosis should rule out the presence of melanocytic features.
