ABSTRACT

Based on a classification published by Mulliken and Glowacki,1 vascular lesions are differentiated into vascular tumors based on true endothelial proliferations (hemangioma, hemangioendothelioma, tufted angioma) and vascular malformations due to vessel ectasia. The latter may affect venous, arterial, lymphatic, or any combination of vessels. A further characterization of vascular lesions may be obtained by being congenital or acquired. While the majority of lesions are diagnosed on clinical grounds alone, others may require further diagnostic workup to rule out other cutaneous malignancies.
