ABSTRACT

The diagnosis of LM by means of RCM has been explained with detail in Chapter 25. Briefly, six positive features have been identified to independently correlate with diagnosis of LM by means of discriminant analysis, corresponding to, in order of relevance: nonedged papillae, pagetoid round and large cells, nucleated cells within dermal papilla, three or more atypical cells at the dermo-epidermal junction (DEJ) in five 0.5 × 0.5 mm2 images, follicular localization of pagetoid cells, and/or atypical junctional cells. There is also one single negative (benign) feature of broadened honeycomb pattern of the epidermis.6
