ABSTRACT

It is obvious to all people that we are in the midst of a revolution with regards to information technology, and it seems to be an easy prediction that this is going to lead to many important developments in identifying patient characteristics of disease processes. The use of cell phones is ubiquitous, and they are almost certainly going to be taken advantage of to provide health information beyond simply how many steps a person takes in a day. The CardioMEMS device has evidence that the use of this diagnostic technology can reduce recurrent hospitalisations. It is likely that a greater role of non-invasive technologies will become established, cardiac computed tomography (CT) imaging and physiological testing on the precipice of redefining who needs an invasive cardiac catheterisation. Bio-absorbable stents or scaffolds are present today but the clinical utility remains to be proven.
