ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews research on the virology of rabies and other lyssaviruses, including its history and epidemiology. The chapter delves thoroughly into the pathophysiology of rabies, with deliberation of the clinical features. The various phases and types of rabies infection are described, and benefits of different laboratory techniques on efficient diagnoses of rabies are considered. The chapter further offers differential diagnosis of rabies, establishing the diagnosis and rabies management, while also providing prophylaxis options and other preventive measures, and the ongoing snags with rabies control and management.
