ABSTRACT

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) is a national programme designed to improve patient treatment and care by reviewing health services. It consists of four key strands: GIRFT is part of an aligned set of workstreams within NHS England and NHS Improvement. GIRFT has developed an implementation programme designed to help trusts and their local partners to address the issues raised in trust data packs and the national specialty reports to improve quality. The GIRFT team provides support at a local level through the NHS England regional teams, advising on how to translate the national recommendations into local practice and supporting efforts to deliver any trust-specific recommendations emerging from the GIRFT visits. However, with support from the GIRFT clinical lead for litigation and ourselves, Rachel O'Connell and Neill Patani searched for every breast case and summarised the data, as well as drawing up key themes for learning.
