ABSTRACT

In contrast to classical transport mechanisms dominant in three-dimensional systems, quantum effects dominate the transport in two-dimensional, one-dimensional, or zero-dimensional systems. In this chapter, an overview of the various transport mechanisms in low-dimensional semiconductors is provided. This chapter mainly reviews mesoscopic transport and its applications. In order to investigate the effect of mesoscopic transport in low-dimensional systems, the effect of confinement, transmission in nanostructures, and Landauer expression of transmission structure has been discussed.
