ABSTRACT

Low-cost adsorbents are suggested to substitute adsorbents that are costly in adsorption process. This chapter explains the ways to remove methylene blue color from wastewater as it is abundant locally in Malaysia. Years of increased industrial, agricultural, and domestic activities have resulted in the release of huge amounts of wastewater with a high composition of toxic pollutants. The availability of clean water is becoming very low and very challenging. Moreover, the demand for water has risen for the industrial, agricultural, and domestic sectors which consume 70", 22", and 8" of available clean water, respectively. Textile wastewater is a mixture of colorants and organic compounds used as cleaning agents. The textile industry is one of the largest users of complex chemicals and water during textile processing. Melastoma malabathricum is a flowering plant in the family of Melastomataceae. It is locally called as Senduduk, Hosing, Karamunting, Kemunting, Kudok-kudok, Odok-odok, and Seppabang in Malaysia.
