ABSTRACT

jMetrik is a user-friendly software program that is designed to facilitate work in a production environment and to make advanced psychometric procedure accessible to every measurement practitioner. It offers a comprehensive set of statistical and psychometric procedures such as basic descriptive statistics, item response theory (IRT) parameter estimation, scale linking, and score equating. jMetrik also includes a variety of charts and graphs for illustrating data. The graphical user interface is intuitive and easy to learn. It also scales to the experience of the user. New users can quickly learn to implement psychometric procedures through point-and-click menus, while experienced users can take advantage of jMetrik commands for automating an analysis. A key feature of jMetrik is the integrated database that allows users to easily organize and manage data. Results from one analysis can be saved to the database and used as input for another analysis. There is no need to manipulate or reshape the data between each psychometric procedure, which substantially reduces the amount of time needed to conduct a complete and thorough psychometric analysis. Although jMetrik includes many statistical and psychometric methods, only a few IRT-related features are discussed in what follows. Meyer (2014) provides an overview of psychometric procedures in jMetrik along with details about program options and step-by-step instructions for running an analysis.
