ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a comprehensive discussion on applications of nanocomposites. It discusses a vast background of the literature based on applications of nanocomposites in various domains which is highly useful to researchers involved in this topic of an interdisciplinary approach and focuses on the trends and advances in the field. The gas barrier property improvements shown by nanoclay as nanofiller in nanocomposites have been established. Nanoclay incorporation in polymeric nanocomposite can reduce the extent of water absorption in atmosphere. Nanocomposites are a high performance material with unique property and design chances. Ceramic-polymer nanocomposites have been used in biomedical field as synthetic scaffolds to overcome the limitations of autografts and allografts. Nanocomposite of polylactic acid with a compatibilizer and cellulose fibrils have been developed. The nanostructures and nanocomposites based on nanoparticles of semiconductor materials exhibit a wide range of nonlinear properties and can be used in various applied fields.
