ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we introduced methods that are commonly used for continuous response variables. We introduce a parametric test (e.g. t-test), a non-parametric test (e.g. Mann-Whitney U-test), and tests which are appropriate for paired data (paired t-test and Wilcoxon sign-rank test). The appropriate situation to use these tests and associated hypothesis are defined. Examples are used throughout to highlight their usage. The concept of multiple testing and the need to control family wise error rate are highlighted. The chapter ends with a discussion of basic regression methods (both linear and non-linear) including inference.
