ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Suicide is an emotive issue and it could be argued that because the act of suicide results in death, it is one of the most important and challenging issues for mental health professionals. Once a person has died there are no second chances to address the problem, and this pressure contributes to some dramatic and understandable responses. It is important to bear in mind that suicidality is a symptom that oft en accompanies emotional problems, but it is important that when dealing with suicidality the underlying problems do not get ignored.
