Globally, over two billion people are suffering from zinc micronutrient deficiency. Zinc plays crucial role in development due to its involvement as a cofactor for several important enzymatic reactions of both plant and human physiology. At the early growth stage, children suffering from zinc deficiency show signs of stunted growth. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates that 50% of world’s soils growing cereal grains are zinc deficient, therefore it is important to develop methods that can improve crop nutrition. Hence, zinc-based additional fertilizers are being used. In this chapter, the role of nanoscale zinc oxide-based fertilizer and its impact on the growth of both plants and humans are discussed.
