ABSTRACT
Tunnelling with a tunnel boring machine is booming in the Netherlands. Therefore modelling of bored tunnels has become more important. In this paper the ground deformations, tunnel lining and bore front stability are discussed, in respect to the 3-D modelling of bored tunnels. In each case, 3-D finite element modelling can be very useful, however, some improvements have to be made, because in some cases hand calculations are still easier and more correct than computer calculations.
