ABSTRACT
The selection of a heterogeneous precious metal catalyst for a new catalytic hydrogenation process requires many important technical and economic considerations. The process of catalyst selection can be broken down into components. Important process components include choice of catalytic metal, choice of support, reactor design and mass transport, catalyst design, catalyst separation, and spent catalyst recovery and refining. Details of each component are discussed.
