ABSTRACT

Partial oxidation of phenol and anisole with hydrogen peroxide on titanium silicalite is studied. It is found that the catalyst requires pretreatment with steam or HC1 in order to be active. Main products are 1,2-dihydroxybenzene from phenol and 4-methoxyphenol from anisole. The catalyst samples used are active for several days after addition of fresh H2O2. Oxidation is not observed when using HZSM-5 and NaZSM-5 as catalysts under similar conditions.
