K 3 . Consequently, the factors contain 3 edges. Because K t comprises altogether 15 edges, a 1-factorization of AC« into 5 edge-disjoint factors exists as shown above. Chemists, familiar with the VB-method, identify the factors above as components of the valence bond-basis (i.e. all possible pairings of electrons with opposite spins) for benzene. The missing Kekuld components of the basis could be represented by two other l-factors of ACe, which are particular linear combinations of the edge-disjoint l-factors shown above.
