ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: There are 21 large dams under operation in Republic of Macedonia. The storage water is used for irrigation, drinking and industry water supply, hydropower, flood protection, fishing, recreation, tourism, provision of biological minimum downstream, etc. Our dams are more than 30 years old and due to the ageing and often not regular maintenance, some of them suffer from stability or leakage problems. In the last few years four dams were rehabilitated. Irrigation Rehabilitation and Restructuring Project supported the rehabilitation of the irrigation intake tunnel of the dam Tikves that suffered from land sliding, and control gallery and crest renovation of the dam Kalimanci. Rehabilitation and Completion of Dams Project supported the rehabilitation of control gallery and crest of the dam Turija and reconstruction of the gate valve of the bottom outlet of dam Mantovo. Both projects were completed successfully and improved the stability and operation conditions of these four dams.
