ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Soon after construction of the Mavcice hydroelectric power plant, differential settlements occurred between the platform of the assembly hall and engine room. It was necessary to level a crane runway, a question arose about the stability of the assembly hall. The investigations performed did not give a clear answer on causes of settlement, that is why the project took into consideration the most probable reason, washing of fine particles out of the dam due to a strong flow of water through the existing grout curtain. As required by the Client Savske elektrarne Ljubljana, the works are carried out at a normal depth of the dam and a regular power station operation. The rehabilitation project, drawn up by the IBE Ljubljana, required an extra sealing of the grout curtain along the diaphragm wall and axis of the original curtain in a length of 35 m, and by the engine room in a length of 10 m up to a depth of 50 m below the surface. Due to high flow velocities, the designer foresaw the use of water-reactive polyurethanes in combination with a cement-bentonite mixture. The works were started in autumn 1999 and completed in spring 2000.
