ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Huangbizhuang reservoir is situated in Shijiazhuang city northwest 30 km of Hebei province of China. The project includes main dam (homogeneous earth fill dam), auxiliary dam (homogeneous earth fill dam), gravity dam, normal spillway and emergency spillway and its total storage capacity reaches 1,210,000,000 m3. The project was first built in 1958 and has emerged many problems in its more than 40 years’ operation process. These problems include: 1) the standard of flood control is on the low side; 2) the cracks on the top of auxiliary dam and in clayey apron have led to serious seepage failure; 3) roundabout seepage gradient of gravity dam is rather high, and there are many defects beyond retrieve in sluice gate of generating tunnel and headstock gear; 4) sluice’s slide resistance stabilization of normal spillway can’t satisfies requirement and there are charring and denudation phenomena on the surface of barrage and bed plate of draining tank. This paper put forwards corresponding treatment measures and has designed repairing scheme aiming at the above problems considering technique, economy, and environment etc. Extending & treating project to this reservoir dated from 1998, and now has closed to end. This paper also discusses some new problems emerged in the process of extending & treating. (For example, occurred slump settlement over and again during the construction of auxiliary dam’s cut-off wall; The environment effect of seepage control, etc.)
