ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Sediment simulation system was developed to estimate the future progress of sediment in a reservoir. This system provides an effective tool to monitor the active reservoir storage and to prevent damage or problems caused by sediment to hydro structures after impounding from planning and design stage. The system is based on the numerical model method using non-uniform flow equations, sediment transport equations and a riverbed movement model. Sediment simulation system was applied to the dam reservoir with whole capacity of 881 million m3 in West Java, Indonesia. The bed load and suspended load are modeled from the initial riverbed materials and the volume of wash load in relation with the river discharge is formulated from measured data in the river flow. The system is shown to simulate the actual progress of the sedimentation for 12 years quite well. The system is also applied to the planned reservoir in the hydropower project in the same river system.
